Introducing Tony York – Dentist

  • Principal of the practice, Tony graduated from Otago with his dental degree in 1977.
  • After 18 months working in South Canterbury, Tony moved to his home town of Christchurch to commence practice in Lincoln Road.
  • Tony has offered 38 years continuous service to his Hoon Hay patients.
  • Tony also holds his qualification in Intravenous Sedation!

Introducing Leigh Stevenson – Dentist

  • Leigh has been in the practice for 25 years.
  • She graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology in 1991 and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1994.
  • Leigh holds her certificate in Intravenous Sedation.

Introducing Dawson Young – Dentist

  • Dawson graduated from Otago University with an Honours degree in Chemistry and (in 1999) his Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
  • Dawson was first with our practice as a locum after graduation and returned after 2 years of OE in London to practice in Hoon Hay.

Introducing Helen Yan – Dentist

  • Helen joined the practice in January 2009
  • Educated at Avonside Girls High, Helen graduated from Otago Dental School in 2008.
  • Helen’s sons Louis and Leon occupy most of her time outside practice hours.

Introducing Chamill Samaranayaka – Dentist

  • Chamil is dual qualified in both medicine and dentistry from University of Otago. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2007, Chamil has worked as a dentist in hospital and private practice settings for the last 11 years. While working at Dentistry with a Smile, he also works as a senior dental surgeon at the Christchurch Hospital dental department. He completed his medical degree in 2015.
  • With Chamil’s medical background, he has worked at Christchurch Public Hospital under various medical and surgical disciplines. He has also served as an Oral and Maxillofacial registrar at Christchurch Hospital treating facial trauma, infections and oral pathology. Chamil enjoys all aspects of dentistry with a special interest in oral surgery, including difficult extractions and wisdom teeth surgery.
  • Chamil Keeps up to date by attending conferences and meetings. He has completed the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Primary examination with distinctions and has published research articles related to various aspects of dentistry and medicine.

Introducing Charlotte Moir
– Clinical Dental Technician

  • I graduated from University of Otage Dental School in 2009, after gaining work experience at the Christchurch Oral Health Centre and working in the North Island.
  • In 2011 I graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology (Distinction).
  • I enjoy working with Duchenne at their various branches and with the dentists in their practices.
  • But especially I enjoy the creation of new smiles!

Introducing Renee Ford – Dental Hygienist

  • I graduated with a Diploma of Dental Hygiene from Otago in 2003.
  • Since then I have worked throughout New Zealand and Australiia, including Otago, Central and Wellington.
  • I moved to Christchurch 3 years ago with my husband and 2 children to rejoin Dentistry with a Smile.
